Kuopio Workshop 2010 - Social Fire Risk

"European Exchange of Good Practice in Identification, Assessment and Management of Social Fire Risk"

The Kuopio Workshop was the last of four ANSFR Project workshops. The event was organised and hosted by the Emergency Services College (Finland), with assistance from Kanta-Häme Emergency Services (Finland), South West Finland Emergency Services, and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (UK). The workshop focused on social fire risk and included presentations, small group activities and field visits which facilitated and stimulated discussions concerning good practice implemented within the ANSFR countries. 

Some of the topics that were discussed and debated during the event included:

  • Recording, reporting and analysing social fire incidents
  • Arson prevention and investigation
  • Reducing risk of fire for individuals living "high risk lifestyles"
  • Risk assessment for care centres
  • Fire risk among children/young people and the elderly
  • Techniques for using incident data to support and inform fire prevention strategies and initiatives
  • Risk assessment and management for public sporting events
