Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco-Nucleo Investigativo Anticendi

The Italian Fire Fighters are employed under the Ministero dell'Interno Opens in a new window(Ministry of the Interior) that consists of five departments, each one named after its own function. One of these departments is Dipartimento dei Vigili del Fuoco del Soccorso Pubblico e della Difesa Civile (Firefighters, Public Rescue and Civil Defence Department), which the Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (CNVVF) Opens in a new window - the Italian Fire Fighters Department -  belongs to.

The organisation of the Italian Fire Fighters Department is quite complex. It consists of operative units, fire stations spread across the whole Italian territory and head offices with strategic/technical functions located in Rome.

One of the head offices is the one responsible for fire prevention and technical safety, located in Roma called Direzione Centrale per la Prevenzione e la Sicurezza Tecnica (DCPST) Opens in a new window. This is the technical division of the Italian Fire Fighters Department. It is composed of eight areas dealing with technical standards, testing activities, fire prevention and protection, risks related to industrial activities, safety and health of workers and fire investigation.

Nucleo Investigativo Antincendi (NIA) Opens in a new window, the office responsible for coordinating CNVVF's contribution to the ANSFR Project, is one of the eight areas within DCPST. NIA has a strategic and technical responsibility for fire investigation and related topics. The main tasks of NIA are studying, researching and analysing the causes of fire. NIA supports the Court, the investigative Police and the Local Fire Stations in their investigative activities in case of accidents caused by fire and in case of explosions.
