On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd June 2010, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (UK) had the pleasure of hosting the extremely successful Fire Risk in Europe Conference 2010 at the Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel, near Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.
The conference provided a European platform for sharing best practice, knowledge and experience on how to identify, assess and manage fire risk. Delegates attending the event discussed information and case studies that will aid them in preventing and reducing fire - and the damage that fire can cause to life, property and the environment.
The conference was delivered as a key element of the ANSFR Project, a European Union co-financed project that aims to reduce the human, financial and environmental costs of fire through the identification and development of effective risk assessment and management practices.
The event programme was structured around the three key themes of the ANSFR Project:
Presentation and poster sessions delivered during the conference showcased best practice in fire risk identification, assessment and management initiatives and strategies that have been successfully implemented within European countries. In addition, interactive workshop sessions provided opportunities for delegates to work with colleagues from across Europe to complete tasks and solve problems in small groups with the aim of sharing ideas and developing new approaches for assessing, managing and reducing fire risk.
